01 / SPORT PARTICIPATION

You don’t have to
be on the team
to get moving.

A welcoming place to start, practice, and enjoy being active.

WHAT WE WANT TO MAKE POSSIBLE

More chances to play.
Fewer reasons to sit out.

Not every child joins a school team. Some are trying a sport for the first time; others need encouragement or a regular time and place to take part. AIWSL aims to work with schools and communities so more young people can begin—and want to come back.

How it could work at school

01

Start where students are.

Listen to their interests and look at the spaces, equipment and teacher support already available.

02

Make it manageable.

Build age-appropriate activities into a routine the school can keep up. Students need room to practice, rather than pressure to perform.

03

Keep the door open.

Pay attention to who attends, who returns, and what makes taking part easier or harder—especially for girls and students with fewer opportunities.

A routine, not just a one-off event.

The earlier Larkspur Project in China used a 14-week cycle with at least two sessions a week and at least 20 minutes per session. This is experience to learn from, not a confirmed timetable for the US program. Each school’s plan will need to fit its students and resources.
